Now that we’ve established some initial concepts about 🔥 • Heat, we can discuss what makes 🔥 • Heat different from any other method invented so far and why it works so well.
This method actually addresses the root causes of a common feeling nowadays: feeling overwhelmed. The root cause is much deeper and lies within the cognitive limits of the human mind. We can only handle a certain amount of information at a time, and when we exceed this capacity, we literally feel like “it’s not going to work.”
This is terrible for productivity because it leads to an attitude of indifference and hopelessness, something like, “I know there’s no way I can handle all of this, but I’ll do what I can.”
A sign of this problem is the feeling of anxiety related to time. Either the person feels they’re racing against time, or they think they’re late, or they say there’s not enough time…
In this way, it’s impossible to produce truly superior work.
Well, without going into a deeper explanation of the cognitive limits of the human mind and "analysis paralysis," let's just say the following:
"Analysis paralysis" is a psychological phenomenon where a person becomes so overwhelmed with options or information that they are unable to make a decision or act effectively. This can happen when facing a complex decision or when there’s an excessive amount of information available, leading to feelings of overload and indecision.
In other words:
If a person can handle 1 task per day and they receive 2, they may strive to do 1 and a half, but this will hardly be productive.
But if instead of receiving 1 task, they receive 10, not only is there no realistic way for them to achieve this goal, but they will also waste a lot of time trying to decide which task to start with.
🔥 • Heat eliminates all of this by limiting the number of tasks to 4 for each of the 4 moments of the day. It acts as a pre-decision of the possible tasks, predicting all potential outcomes.
What does this mean?
Well, one big misunderstanding in traditional productivity is the idea of starting a task and not stopping until it’s finished. This is terrible for productivity.
Why?
Very simple, imagine the following situation:
A person starts a task with high levels in the 4 pillars (TEAM) and is fully focused (in a state of flow). They work on that task for 2 hours and complete 50% of it. Traditional productivity would say, “Don’t stop this task until it’s finished.”
However, the next 2 hours will not be the same as the first 2. And do you know why?
Because this person is already tired, they are not in the same state of concentration, and won’t reach the flow state as easily… In other words, they won’t complete the other 50% in 2 hours.
“Don’t stop this task until it’s finished.”
If the person continues, they are nearing the end of the day, a moment we call Uphill, where their cognitive capacity decreases drastically, and the task will not be completed in the next 2 hours.
The best solution would be to wait until the next day and likely finish the remaining 50% of the task in 2 hours, rather than spending 6 hours and feeling bad about the day’s result.
🔥 • Heat’s approach guides the person to make the best use of their cognitive abilities at each moment of the day. This happens automatically through the 🗂️ 9P Stamp System.
In other words, the person doesn’t need to waste time choosing the task to do or forcing themselves to finish a task they won’t complete. The person just needs to follow the plan, in the most frictionless way possible.
Summary: 🔥 • Heat is a method designed to address the root causes of feeling overwhelmed, particularly by cognitive overload. The framework limits tasks to four per day, divided into specific moments, optimizing cognitive abilities and preventing burnout. Unlike traditional productivity methods, which suggest completing tasks without pause, 🔥 • Heat focuses on managing energy and attention throughout the day, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently without unnecessary stress.
